Project Description

Cara Operations Head Office

100,000 sq. ft.
Targeted LEED Gold
ARIDO Award 2009 – Workspaces
‘Design Is’ Award 2010 – Shaw Contract Group

WP+A has designed for Cara, community spaces in this 100,000 sq. ft. facility, to encourage communications and spontaneous collaboration among the 400 employees. The open design has no private offices, offering flexibility for change and allowing natural light throughout.

The space planning and interior design direction regarding skylights, fenestration and stairways support the client’s vision and guided the architectural form of this design/build project. Two axis divide the 80,000 sq. ft. ground floor, the north-south corridor defines the major public entrance, reception area and central boulevard. Staff entrances, coat rooms and support services are along the east-west axis. The axis converge at the striking 28 foot high central atrium, with its floating stairway and a two-storey high stacked stone wall with reflecting pool and integrated waterfall.

As Cara’s town square, the boulevard features street lighting, column-mounted flat screens, a central coffee bar and attractive transparent acrylic image walls define presentation areas.

On the 20,000 sq. ft. second floor are the boardroom, lounges and heritage library; Cara University and its flexible training rooms, breakout areas and food service, also a research/reference library and full scale gym with change/shower areas.

The entire building – systems, materials, furniture and lighting – is targeted to achieve Gold LEED TM certification.
